The land is sanctified with faith and culture, the mythology describes during sagar manthan the few drops of heavenly nectar spilled on its own, legends has it that Lord Shiva lived here so the Mahakal temple enshrines one of the 12 Jyotirlinga. Ujjain bestowed with numerous temples is titled as the ‘temple city’. Kumbh mela on bank of River Shipra is held in every 12 years.
